In the Middle Ages, the seccond most important urban communication. Its lower portion used to be a Jewish quarter from 1411 until 1550 after the burghers had succesfully pressed Emperor Ferdinand I to decree a ban on Jewish presence in the touwn.

St. James´Church - legend has it that this, the city´s oldest monastery, was founded in 1233 afher the advent of Franciscan monks (also called Minorites or friars Minor or mendicant friars). It used to stand near the walls.
