Litom??ice - Bílé strán?

Length: 2 km

North of Litomerice; Bilé strán? is a natural monument that covers the area of approx. 12 ha above the Pokratický brook valley. Tourists can find rare thermophilic plant species in the area, e.g., yellow lady's slipper (Cypripedium calceolus), snowdrop anemone (Anemone sylvestris), rare variations of flax (Linum tenuifolium and Linum flavum), fly orchid (Ophrys insectifera), etc.

Litom??ice - Velké Žernoseky

Length: 2 km

A village with a wine-making tradition, first documented in the 1160s. There is a Baroque chateau and wine cellars from the 18th century, the late-Gothic St. Nicholas Church from 1516 and historical vineyards. One kilometre south of the village, the Píš?anské lake was created from a gravel quarry and is used for swimmng, fishing, sailing, etc.

Litom??ice - Radobýl

Length: 3 km

Radobýl, at 399m above sea level, is an isolated hill near Litom??ice, documented in 1359 when the slopes were given to the town as vineyards by King Charles IV. An iron cross is placed on top of the hill and offers a beautiful view of the Elbe lowlands and Czech Central Mountains. Part of the hill is a nature reserve with a number of rare plants, e.g., purple mullein (Verbascum phoenicum) or rare members of the genus Stipa (Stipa joannis).
Shortly before the end of WWII, an underground plant called Richard was built on the slope. It is not open to the public.

Litom??ice - Terezín

Length: 4 km

The fort town of Terezín was founded in 1780 by Emperor Joseph II, and it was named after his mother, Empress Maria Theresa. In 1782 Terezín became a royal town and was governed by the Litom??ice municipality. The town lost its fort status in 1887. The original fortification system is well-preserved almost around the whole circumference of the town. The so-called Small Fortress was built on the right bank of the Oh?e river, used as a prison for serious offenders from the 19th century. In 1940, the Prague gestapo established a prison here; more than two-thirds of the 90.000 prisoners died. In 1941, Terezín residents were relocated and a ghetto was established with approx. 160.000 Jewish prisoners; 36.000 died and others died after being transported to Auschwitz.
The Small Fortress memorial, historical centre of Terezín and cemetery. Guided tours of the memorial available in Czech, German, English, French and Russian. Tourists can also visit the permanent exhibition "Terezín 1780-1939", cinema and exhibits in the Small Fortress.

Litom??ice - Ploskovice

Length: 7 km

This village was first documented in 1188 as the property of nobleman Hroznata. A former Gothic fort was rebuilt after 1720 by architect Octavio Broggio into a Baroque chateau with a park modeled as a small-scale Versailles. In 1850-53, the chateau was adapted into a summer residence for Czech King Ferdinand V, the Good. After 1918, the Habsburg chateau became state property and it was used as a summer residence of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Edvard Beneš and Jan Masaryk were frequent guests here.

Litom??ice - Varhoš?

Length: 9 km

A hill with a 12m tall metal lookout tower, situated at 369m above sea level. It offers a beautiful view of the Elbe lowland and the surrounding hills, and you can even catch a glimpse of the surface of the Elbe river in ten areas.

Litom??ice - T?ebušín

Length: 10 km

The village dates from 1169 and it was owned by Litom??ice castellan Bleha. Other notable monuments: the Baroque-style St. Nicholas Church built in 1710; Chapel of St. John Nepomucene.
Approx. one kilometre north of the village stand the ruins of castle Kalich (538m above sea level), founded by Jan Žižka of Trocnov in 1421. After Žižka's death, the castle was given to the charge of his brother Jaroslav and sister Agnes. The Hussite forces stayed here even after the Battle of Lipany (1434) until 1437. After that the castle had various owners and remained inhabited until the last quarter of the 15th century.

Litom??ice - Lovoš

Length: 10 km

Rising 570m above sea level, Lovoš is a basalt hill connected with a smaller phonolite hill called Kybi?ka, that towers above the industrial town of Lovosice. A tourist house with a lookout tower can be found on top of the hill.
Closed on Mondays. Opened Tue-Sun, from 9am, offers food and accommodation (16 beds). Tel.: 416 597 007, 607 184 600.
Sightseeing trails form a nature reserve with protected steppe, forest steppe and grove plant species.

Litom??ice - Brozany n.O.

Length: 12 km

After a two-year renovation, the fort in Broznany n. O. is open to the public, featuring a medieval torture chamber. Visitors can see coats of arms of all the owners.
Opening hours: April 1 - October 30, Sat+Sun, 10:00-16:00, + December 25 - 26 and December 31, 10:00-16:00.
Tickets: 30 CZK; reduced ticket price: 15 CZK.

Litom??ice - Doksany

Length: 13 km

The local Premonstratensian nunnery dates from 1144; it was remodeled in the Baroque style at the end of the 17th century. In the 19th century, it was adapted into a chateau. Visitors can see the Romanesque Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary and a tomb from the beginning of the 13th century. The park features pavillions, salla terena and various sculptures.
Approx. one kilometre north stands the cemetery Church of St. Peter and Paul, originally built at the beginning of the 13th century in the Romanesque style, and adapted in the Baroque style by Octavio Broggio.

From Doksany, it is one kilometre to Broznany: car camp.

Litom??ice - Oparno

Length: 15 km

A village situated under the Lovoš hill, on the Milešovský brook.
Ruins of the Gothic fort Oparno, documented in 1354 as the property of the Smil family of Vchynice. The family owned it until the beginning of the 16th century. The last documented inhabitants were here in 1502. In 1535 the fort was already abandoned.
The Oparenské valley - remnants of prehistoric quarries, with a tourist trail in the lower section. A number of rare plant and animal species can be found in the area, e.g., butterbur (Petasites hybridus), martagon lily (Lilium martagon), autumn crocus (Colchicum autumnale), kingfisher (Alcedo atthis), fire salamander (Salamandra salamandra), etc. A pleasant, approx. 6km hike.

Litom??ice - T?ebenice

Length: 16 km

The village dates from 1227 and it was in possession of the St. George monastery at the Prague Castle. The Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary was built in the years 1591-1601; the cemetery Chapel of the Holy Trinity bears the early Baroque style and was built in 1692-1696.
The ruins of the Koš?álov castle: originally owned by the St. George monastery at the Prague Castle. It was first documented in 1372. At the beginning of the Hussite Wars, it was in possession of the Kaplí? family of Sulevice. The castle was abandoned in the 16th century.
The Czech Garnet Museum - in the former Evangelical chuch, founded in 1872. Based on the collection of local physician and Czech patriot V. Pa?ík. The museum boasts the largest Czech garnet (pyrope), a collection of jewellery established by Ulrika von Levetzow (J. W. Goethe's mistress) and "Kališnický gradual", an illuminated gradual from the 16th century that weighs close to 40kg.

Litom??ice - Zubrnice

Length: 20 km

The village was founded in the Middle Ages. It features well-preserved wooden and brick houses from the 18th and 19th century, and a museum of folk architecture. The former railway station houses a railway museum; the collection includes railway artifacts, vehicles and equipment. Litom??ice - Roudnice nad Labem

Length: 20 km

It is an urban historical zone and also the cultural and economic capital of the Pod?ípsko region. A settlement in this area dates already from the 10th century and after that the Prague bishopry was based here, to be replaced later by a Romanesque castle. Nearby Staré m?sto was founded, where the oldest stone bridge over the Elbe river was built. In 1333, the Augustinian order established a monastery here; architect Octavio Broggio designed the Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary (1725-34). In 1378, Roudnice was enlarged to include the so-called New Town. The town burned down during the Hussite Wars. From 1575 it was governed by William of Rosenberg; after 1603 the Lobkowitz family acquired the city under its rule. An early Baroque chateau was built in the years 1652-84 by F. Carrati, C. Orsolini and A. Porta. The riding hall was built at the same time - in the 1960s they were turned into the Regional Art Gallery. Other notable monuments: the late Gothic tower "Hláska", a Baroque-style belltower from 1715, St. William's Chapel by Octavio Broggio from 1726 or St. Joseph's Chapel from 1777.

Litom??ice - Budyn? n.O.

Length: 20 km

A water castle - historical artifacts and museum collection, includes an alchemist workshop (Janda Museum and Alchemy Museum). There is also the Budyn? nad Oh?í Gallery. Litom??ice - T?ebívlice

Litom??ice - Úšt?k

Length: 20 km

The so-called Bird houses - an urban historical reserve - from the 19th century are found on Kamenná street; the 18th-century St. Peter and Paul's Chuch is located on Mírové square; Pikartská tower, part of the former city fortification system, is today used as a gallery; the square boasts gabled houses with arcades; the Jewish synagogue is open to the public and hosts various cultural events. The man-made Chmela? lake is found near the city and is used for leisure activities: swimming, camping, water sports, etc. East of Úšt?k, there are the ruins of the Helfenburk castle from the 14th century. In the nearby village of Lukov, tourists can find the art gallery "Na Gruntu" (Tel.: 724 139 580).

Litom??ice - Libochovice

Length: 23 km

A town on the Ohre river, dating from 1292. It was burnt down by the Hussites in 1424; in 1560 it was granted the town status. Libochovice is the birthplace of world-famous physiologist J. E. Purkyn?.
There is an early-Baroque chateau from the end of the 17th century by architect Antonio della Porta, with a French garden and English park.

Litom??ice - Milešovka

Length: 24 km

Milešovka, the highest hill in the Central Czech Mountains (837m above sea level). According to Humbold, it offers the third most beautiful view in all of Europe. On top of the hill, tourists can visit a meteorological station that was founded in 1904, and buy refreshments. It is a nature reserve with a range of rare plant species, e.g., bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi), fringed pink (Dianthus superbus), rusty woodsia (Woodsia ilvensis), table iris (Iris aphylla), etc. Access by marked trails only.

Litom??ice - Hazmburk

Length: 25 km

The ruins of castle Hazmburk are found near the town of Libochovice, above the village of Klapý. The castle was built in the second half of the 13th century. From 1335 it was owned by Zbyn?k Zajíc from Valdek. At that time, the eastern section with a cylindrical tower (called the Black tower) was added. Around the mid-16th century, the castle was abandoned. Many legends are tied to the ruins. The place hosts various events during the year, e.g. local festivities with historical fencing, a strong man contest "Hazmbursky bivoj", etc. For more information, call: 606 820 015, 416 591 443.

Litom??ice - ?íp

Length: 25 km

This national cultural monument lies at an altitude of 456m above sea level. The Romanesque rotund of St. George was built here in the 12th century. In 1868, the area provided a cornerstone for the construction of the National Theatre in Prague. Every year in April, tourists can visit the so-called "?ípská pou?", a traditional festivity.

Litom??ice - Ústí n.L.

Length: 25 km

It is the capital of the Ústecký Region. It boasts a late-Gothic church with a leaning steeple, the St?ekov castle from 1316; opening hours April - October, Tue-Sun; November - December, Sat+Sun.
There is a zoo in the city district of Krásné B?ezno, a thermal outdoor pool in Brná, and a 19th-century chateau in Velké B?ezno - open May - September, Tue-Sun; April - October, Wed-Sun.
There is a limestone rock in Tisá and, close to the city, Vrko? - a protected natural formation.

Litom??ice - Muka?ov

Length: 27 km

In August 2004, a new lookout tower was opened in Muka?ov, called Ví?ova vyhlídka. It is run by the municipal office in Love?kovice.
Situated at the altitude of 616m above sea level; the tower is 21m high. Accessible by car. Open from May to October, Thu+Sun, 10:00-17:00. Free entrance.

Litom??ice - Bore?

Length: 30 km

The village has a Baroque chateau and chapel from 1910.
0.5 km north of the village is Bore?ský Hill, a nature reserve. The hill is famous for the remarkable phenomenon of the so-called ventarole (a stream of moist warm air released from the opening of the crevice system at the top). In the winter, warm vapours rise from the top due to air cirulation in the crevices. In the spring and summer, the circulation is reversed and small ice stalagmites form at the foot of the hill. Tourists can take a hike along the marked trail. Rare plant species can be found in the area, for example, fringed pink (Dianthus superbus), liverwort (Targionia hypophylla), pasque flower (Pulsatilla patens) or a rare variation of saxifrage (Saxifraga decipiens).
