Courthouse and Prison

Built in 1908 in pseudo Renaissance style as a regional courthouse which was here until 1949, along with municipal court, notary, and state security service and the regional party secretariat in the 1950s. Today there is the regional court and other state institutions. A large prison is in the vicinity of the courthouse. In the 1930s, Adolf Hitler's astrologist Hanussen served time here for fraud; in 1945-46, commander of the Terezín Small Fort H. Jöckel was also jailed here until his execution in the courtyard.
