The Church of St. Wenceslas

Adress: Václavské nám?stí

First mentioned in the year 1363, this Gothic building was destroyed during the Thirty Years War. The new church was built at the town's expense in 1714-17 by Octavio Broggio to show appreciation for the retreat of the plague. The sculptures are the work of Franz Tollinger. On the front can be seen the statue of St. Wenceslas, Czech prince and patron saint of the Czech nation. Above the statue there is a stucco representation of the town crest. The building has been used by the Orthodox Church since 1945. The recent restoration work of 1993-94 was carried out according to a design by Jarmila Antošová.
