The Church of St. Jacob

Adress: Dominikánské nám?stí

The first record of this, the oldest cloister in the town, is from the year 1233. It was established by the Bishop of Prague, Jan II, as a church monastery for Franciscan monks, the minority order. After it was destroyed in the Thirty Years War it lay for a long time in ruins. The monastery and the church were rebuilt in the late Baroque style by Octavio Broggio in 1730-40. However, it was not completed until after his death in 1758. The main altar from the year 1769 is the work of Jan Hennevogel. After the abolition of the minority order on the orders of Josef II, the Dominican order was transferred here in 1788.
